Rockwall is an incorporated city in Rockwall County, Texas, USA. It't located about 22 miles northeast of downtown Dallas. As of the 2020 United State Census, the population was 47,219. The city has a total area of 22.1 square miles. It is effectively a suburb of Dallas.

On April 12, 1854, a grant of land in present-day Rockwall County was made to Collin College. The first settlers in the area were planters, and the economy was based on cotton and corn. Prior to the Civil War, many migrants from the Upper South moved into the area. With the support of railroad construction, the town of Rockwall began to grow in 1870. It was named after a naturally joint-occurring rock wall that runs through the county. During the late 1800's, the community continued to grow as it became a residential and agricultural center. In 1878, the first Masonic Lodge was established in the town, and the first newspaper, The Rockwall News, was created. By 1890, the population had reached 1,053.
